My new favorites

twilight

I have just finished reading the last of Stephanie Meyer’s books. I loved the entire series. I am so enthralled with these characters and their stories. Twilight introduced Bella Swan, a 17 year old girl. She has the fortune (or misfortune) to fall in love with Edward Cullen, who just happens to be a vampire. In New Moon, we stand witness as Bella tries to recover from having her very human heart shattered. She then has the second good fortune of being old friends with Jacob Black, a Native Quiluete boy that is one year younger…..and happens to be a werewolf. It sounds more goth and creepy than in reality. This is a love story. It is also a story about choice. Some choices are eternal. It is also a great conversation about each of our “lots” in life and how we must reconcile our circumstances, even if they are not within our control. There are other threads of morality, chastity, jealousy, revenge and contrition. Many very adult issues, wrapped up as “juvenile literature”. I am totally infatuated with the entire series and find myself missing these characters much like I did Harry Potter et al. The difference with these charcters is that they are far more believeable and their circumstances are more contemporary. Now…I have to wait until Fall 2008 for the next book. It feels like AGONY.

One word of advice…..when you buy Twilight…..buy all three. Otherwise, you will trekking out to the 24 hour Walmart to buy the second book, New Moon.
