To forgive. To be forgiven. From where does forgiveness arise? Why do we seek forgiveness? If I act in a way that harms myself or harms another, I feel compelled to ask for forgiveness. Asking requires humility. I set aside my pride. I admit my mistakes. I admit my errors. I admit my omissions. I feel contrite. I am saddened by my behavior. I wish to make things right. When I ask forgiveness it lightens my heart. I feel scrubbed clean. Even if no one “grants me forgiveness”, I feel better because the request for forgiveness comes from a genuine place.
