Promise

Do you keep the promises to make to yourself? The little ones and the big ones? Drink less. Sleep more. Floss. Declutter. Try to stop cursing. Climb the mountain. Plant the garden. Go on that trip. Fall in love.

It is too easy to procrastinate or forget or neglect. And time slips away. Be careful. Suddenly, you realize there is more time behind you than ahead. Is there still time to plant an orchard? Write (another) book? Will I have grandchildren? Will I still be able?

This blog is one of those promises. Considering the time spent everyday staring at the small screen on my mobile phone, I have time to write. Plenty of time. I squander time. And time is the one resource that you can only spend once. It is single use, non-regenerative. You cannot recycle and get more, not even a facsimile of time. There is no E=MC2 equation to calculate the conversion of time into some other resource like mass and energy.

And contrary to how we should be with money and savings, we should spend time. Use time. Don’t hesitate. Don’t be frugal. Be extravagant. Don’t wait. The adage is that tomorrow is not promised. All we have is this moment.
