Gratitude Project: Day 2

I am grateful today for MUSIC. I awoke to The Talking Heads on World Cafe singing This Must be the Place. Somewhere in the dredges of my musicology archives I place that song into the chronology of college. I did some research. The Stop Making Sense album came out in 1983, the year before I graduated from high school. Maybe it was visiting FSU yesterday for a college tour. FSU FEELS like a college campus. Today, I woke to David Byrne and then tabbed through the card catalog of music that accompanies my life. It’s happy music for the most part.

Madonna’s Lucky Star, The Pretenders’ Brass in Pocket, Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics. Tone Loc’s Wild Thing, Duran Duran’s Rio, I Feel For You by Chaka Khan, Bryan Adams’ Run to You, The Boss’s Glory Days, almost anything by Journey but definitely Faithfully, Mr. Palmer’s Addicted to Love, The West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys, Human by the Human League, INXS Need You Tonight……and on and on.

I have been going through the Billboard Top 100 for the years I was in college and medical school and the music kills me: Scritti Politti, Miami Sound Machine, Van Halen, Mike & The Mechanics, Bon Jovi, Chris de Burgh, Bananarama, LeVert, Crowded House, The Bangles, Aerosmith, Debbie Gibson, Bobby Brown, Milli Vanilli, Fine Young Cannibals [She Drives Me Crazy], NKoTB, Tears for Fears, Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians ( favorite my 1st year of med school)………

Today I am thankful for the great soundtrack that has accompanied my life.
