One of my favorite shrubs is the Confederate Rose. A member of the hibiscus family, the blooms open in the morning a soft white. As the day progresses, the flower slowly turns to a deep pink color. The blossoms rival dinner plates in size and are fragrant free. I love this notion of waking and starting your day clean and new, white and unblemished. At the end of the day, as you curl up, you have transformed into something richer and more complex. What a remarkable feat.
