The threads of an experience often unusual. The seemingly disconnected ultimately connect. Before Thanksgiving, I did some of my grocery shopping at Albertson’s. It is not my usual grocer, but I can use gift cards we get through the SCRIP program for school. While in the store, I saw some Ball jars that were unusual [...]
Our neighbor, Tom, has a dog named Max. The dog is very old, blind, mean and very big. The dog has no teeth. Tom has even pre-dug the dog’s grave. He anticipates that the dog will die one of these weekends, when he and his wife Debbie are over at the beach. We are blessed [...]
I have just returned for the wake for Evan’s teacher’s husband. Patrick was 50. His birthday was 1/27. He died last Friday. He was from upstate New York. His sister Mary told the story that his parents had tried the first 4 years of their marriage to have a child without success. So, his mother [...]
I am so sorrowful. We learned today that the husband of Evan’s 1st grade teacher died very unexpectedly on Friday. As far as we know, he was not ill. He was 50. It is stunning. It sinks in and it makes me still. I cannot imagine her loss. The sheer suddenness. It has to feel [...]
I got the sweetest card from my cousin Matt and his wife Heather. There is a picture of their three stunningly beautiful children sitting on a donkey. The quotation asks us to consider the 90 miles Mary rode (and Joseph walked) to get to Bethlehem. The funny part was how sore Mary’s “bum” must have been. [...]
When I looked up the exact definition for the word “cull“, I was surprised that my use of the word was not the primary definition. I would use the word in this fashion:
“I was able to cull my fear and cross the bridge.”
Maybe my use of the word is colloquial.
In the last [...]
I got some beautiful flowers yesterday. Paul brought me the sweetest minature roses at The Fresh Market. I love flowers. They are frivolous and serve simply to adorn and delight.
Â
I put them on my kitchen table so I can look at them while I bake cookies and make peanut brittle….for the second time. [...]
I have had the sweetest, most lovable, most feminine, petite little calico cat for the last 19 years. Her name was Domino and she died this morning. Actually, sometime last night. I have had her since 1989. She is one from the litter of the Trailer Cat. Paul had a cat that lived under his [...]
This time of year is so special. There are so many layers to the Christmas celebrations. Of course there is the secular Christmas of Santa Claus, but in America it goes so far beyond that. There are those claymation TV specials that were corney 30 years ago. Rudolph and Frosty and Charlie Brown’s sad, dead Christmas [...]
Magnets have polarity. One end is positive and one end is negative. If you try to place two magnets against each other, they have to be in opposite positions, otherwise they repel from each other. Flip one around and then the magnets cling to one another. Take a stack of magnets and they will all [...]
